Manual Osteopathic Therapy
Manual osteopathic therapy (MOT) is a holistic, hands-on approach to healing that seeks to re-establish the body’s structural components and improve function. It is based on the understanding that the body operates as an interconnected whole; what occurs in one system or area influences the entire body, never in isolation. Therefore, MOT combines five different modalities, each focusing on a specific body system, to optimize the entire body’s natural ability to heal and regenerate:
1) Osteoarticulations (affecting bony structures)
2) Myofascial Release (affecting connective tissue)
3) Craniosacral Therapy (affecting the skull, sacrum, and membranes surrounding the brain/spinal cord)
4) Manual Lymphatic Drainage (affecting fluid flow)
5) Visceral Manipulation (affecting organs and their surrounding structures)
Because of the comprehensive nature of MOT, there are few issues that this modality is not useful in incorporating. In a MOT session, we will assess these different systems to determine the source(s) of your dysfunction or chief complaint, which will then guide our treatment applications.
*Please note: If you can, please come in or bring comfortable, moveable closing for manual osteopathic therapy appointments as these treatments are done clothed. Shorts and a t-shirt/tank top are ideal.
